Choosing a guided walk takes all the stress out of planning your trip to the Lake District - I will take care of planning the ideal route for you. You might want to find the best views that the Lakes has to offer, or the perfect secluded spot for wild swimming. Your walk could include a picnic with a view, a meander along the lake shore, a scramble up the fellside, or a stop at a pub or café. Whether you choose from one of my suggested walks, below, or ask me to create a route just for you, your day will be tailored specially for your group, ensuring your perfect day out.

I walk with individuals, families, couples and small groups (up to a maximum of six people). On booking I will be in touch so you can tell me about your group and your requirements for your day.

Scafell Pike

4-8 hours, 1000m ascent

The original and the best! At just under 1000m, Scafell Pike is England's highest mountain. Depending on your preferences, we can take multiple different routes up the mountain; Scafell Pike is often busy, but we can avoid the worst of the crowds. Most ascents begin in Wasdale, but fit, fast walkers could also ascend from Great Langdale.

Coniston Fells

6-8 hours, 1000m ascent

Explore the mining heritage of Coniston by climbing through the Coppermines valley to Levers Water, before taking the rocky 'Prison Band' ridge to Swirl How. We'll visit the summit of Coniston Old Man, from where we have a choice of descent routes. Fit and adventurous walkers could also add an ascent of Wetherlam to this day.

Langdale Valley

5-7 hours, 550m ascent

This low-level but stunning linear walk begins at Old Dungeon Ghyll, at the far end of Langdale - we'll catch the bus from Ambleside. From there we'll pass tranquil Blea Tarn, and explore Cumbria's industrial heritage at the breathtaking Cathedral Quarry. We can also visit Colwith and Skelwith waterfalls before returning to Ambleside.

Helvellyn

5-7 hours, 900m ascent

The classic ascent and descent of Helvellyn takes in the rocky, exhilarating grade 1 scrambles of Striding and Swirral Edges. You'll need a good level of fitness and a head for heights to tackle these two. If you'd prefer a gentler route, there are plenty of other ways we can climb this enduringly popular mountain. Most ascents begin in Glenridding, but it is also possible to start from Thirlmere.

Fairfield Horseshoe

6-8 hours, 1000m ascent

One of the classic Lakeland rounds, the Fairfield Horseshoe is a superb introduction to high level fell walking. We'll set out from Ambleside and climb up the rocky eastern arm of the horseshoe. The summit of Fairfield commands great views in all directions, before our descent along the gentler, mainly grassy western ridge to Nab Scar and a final easy stroll through Rydal back to Ambleside.

Loughrigg Fell

A deserved classic. From Ambleside we take quiet country lanes to Rydal, with the opportunity for a visit to Rydal caves before traversing the stunning Loughrigg Terrace, with views across to Grasmere. We climb to the trig pillar on Loughrigg before a fun descent back into Ambleside.

Little Langdale - a quarry adventure

2-4 hours, 300m ascent

From the village of Elterwater we visit Cathedral and Hodge Close quarries while winding our way through picturesque Little Langdale. Despite being remnants of a bygone industry, both caverns are beautiful and exciting to explore.

This gentle walk at valley level takes in some of the highlights of Langdale; the easy walking of the Cumbria way paired with the delights of both Skelwith and Colwith Force waterfalls, and the glorious view from Slater Bridge across Little Langdale Tarn.

Hawkshead, Claife and Windermere

3-5 hours, 400m ascent

A walk with a bit of everything. From chocolate-box-perfect Hawkshead village we'll climb up into the forests of Claife before descending to walk along the Windermere lakeshore. Our return is via the stunning Latterbarrow viewpoint.

Wansfell

3-4 hours, 600m ascent

The walk starts with a visit to Stockghyll Force waterfalls, just outside Ambleside. From there we make the steep, stepped climb to Wansfell Pike, and admire the views across Windermere before a gentler descent to the village of Troutbeck. The return to Ambleside is easy track walking, visiting Skelghyll Wood on the way back into town.
